How the connections speed test works

The Connectiontest is a special development of DirectSPEED, which measures the maximum performance of your Internet access.
A wide variety of factors are taken into account for measurement:
Your download speed, the performance of your router or Internet modem, the performance of your network card and CPU, and the Internet browser you are using.
The test establishes the maximum number of connections to our server in record time and pushes your Internet access to the limit. The measurement result gives you information about the speed in the form of connections per minute.
Weak Internet connections usually only manage a few hundred connections per minute.
High-performance connections achieve values of over 1,500 connections per minute.

How the download speed test works

DirectSPEED is a provider-independent bandwidth test for all common Internet accesses. The speed test calibrates itself fully automatically according to the specifications of your internet line. During the test, several files are downloaded and the download time is measured precisely. The maximum speed is determined from these measured values.

During the DSL speed test, you should not perform any other activities or downloads on your computer in order not to distort the measurement. Virus scanners or firewalls can also have a negative influence on the measurement.
We recommend briefly deactivating these programs for the test in order to obtain a reliable test result.
Larger data packets are transferred during the speed test, so a download flat rate is recommended.

How the upload speed test works

DirectSPEED is a provider-independent bandwidth test for all common Internet accesses. The upload test uploads a special uncompressed test file to our server. The upload time is measured precisely. The maximum speed is determined from these measured values.

During the DSL test, you should not perform any other activities or downloads on your computer in order not to falsify the measurement. Virus scanners or firewalls can also have a negative influence on the measurement.
We recommend briefly deactivating these programs for the test in order to obtain a reliable test result.
Larger data packets are transferred during the speed test, so a data flat rate is recommended.

How the ping speed test works

The ping test sends several data packets from our server to your computer.
The time span for sending and then receiving a data packet is referred to as the packet runtime. Colloquially, the word "PING" has become established.
A short ping time (under 25ms) is very important for online gaming, for example, to guarantee fast data transfer.
The smaller the ping time, the more powerful your Internet access.

This test may not work properly if you are using a very strict virus scanner or firewall. Also, your router may be blocking ping requests from our server, so this test cannot be performed.
In this case, you should at least run the download test to check your internet access.
